Hailee wanted to go to San Francisco for her birthday. We drove up for a long weekend and decided we wanted to stay some where we could park the car and not use it until we were ready to leave.
We found the Courtyard at Marriot in the Soma district. We were all very impressed with our hotel choice. Every one was very friendly and the room was large and very clean.
View from our hotel room.
When we got there on Friday, we thought we would just check out the area and decide what we wanted to do. We saw a sign advertising the new King Tut exhibit at the museum. We are there! Did I mention, Not only is Hailee a book addict, but she also loves history. Her favorite is Egyptian and Greek history. We get up early Saturday morning and decide we can walk the two hour walk over to the museum. I know we are crazy! We drag ourselves across the city up and down the streets. Did you know, SF has a lot of up hills? We were so tired by the time we get there to find out that the exhibit is not part of the museum, it is separate and they are sold out! What?? Are they kidding we just walked here from 2nd street. No, they weren’t kidding. We took a cab, the death cab we almost didn’t make it, to City Lights book store. I highly recommend walking over taking a cab…I’m pretty sure red brake lights means drive faster in cabby language. Hailee was so upset I thought it would be a good idea to take her to her happy place. Tina at Enchanted Rose told me about this book store. Thanks Tina!
You don’t have to ask Hailee twice!![]()
The big city has so much to offer, we tried to see as much as we could but we could have stayed for a week and probably not seen it all. The architecture was so beautiful, the people were friendly and crazy, there were so many shops and restaurants, it was hard to choice.
We saw this raccoon sitting here in the same spot the day before. It is good to see raccoons reading!
We did a lot of shopping! We don’t actually live in the middle of no where, it’s not like we live in Montana and all you can see is grass, mountains and sky. But sometimes it really feels like it because we don’t have choices here. We go to the same shops and restaurants over and over again. In SF, it was like we were in overload great store after store and a different kind of cuisine on every corner.
Hailee thought this was hilarious! I really should stay away from hats.
I love when things are color coordinated!
I know what you are thinking! How many books stores can they go to? This one was closed. Whew! I won’t tell you this wasn’t our last book store stop.
Ohhh, Beautiful, wish you were here!
He looks like he wants to say “Can I help you?”
We couldn’t decide which house we wanted to live in they were all so beautiful. Here are a few of our favorites.
I’m guessing this would be Hailee’s favorite because of the coffee/cafe on the bottom floor. Just a guess.
After walking all day, Hailee says, you know what sounds good is your mac and cheese. The very next restaurant we stopped to look at their menu….they had mac and cheese.
It must have been a sign. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was fun, relaxed and the people where nice!
On our last day, there was the Gay Pride Parade. I have actually been to this parade in 1990. It seemed tamer this year, than how I remembered it. Maybe it is just me getting older and seeing more things over the years. Not as many things shock me!
I think it is obvious why I took this photo. I should have put my surfer dude on a bike.
They were having so much fun! I’m pretty sure it is just an excuse to have a big party, dress up and dance around.
We love San Francisco!
