The Hubby and I both love croissants. I have always wanted to make them for him on a weekend morning, but the whole laminated dough thing was a little intimidating to say the least. A few weekends back I was up early and of course watching the cooking channel. Nigella Lawson was making homemade chocolate croissants and they were sort of semi-homemade. I love Nigella because she is just so real. So off to the store I went to buy the few ingredients these required and the rest as we say is history!
Ingredients:
1 package of frozen puff pastry, defrosted
1 egg , beaten
1 bar of good chocolate, bittersweet
Preheat your oven to 425* and place your rack in the center of the oven.
After the pastry is defrosted I cut each sheet into 4 squares first, then cut each square diagonally so you have a lopsided triangle.
Chop up your bar into small pieces about 1 inch. Mine might have been larger (take that to the bank).
You can use parchment, this is what I used. You don't spray this or your parchment as there is enough butter in the pastry to prevent sticking.
Place a chunk of the chocolate on the large end and begin rolling up.
When they are done, use a pastry brush and brush with beaten egg for a beautiful brown. Bake for about 15 minutes, until golden brown and puffy.
Because there are 2 sheets in the box you can make quite a bit.
I served mine warm out of the oven. Do try and let them rest a minute or two as that chocolate can get very hot! Try and let them rest a minute before you devour them!

Believe it or not but I have all these ingredients on hand. JR will love them.
I have never made croissants. When we used to live in CA, we used to buy them at La Boulangerie (Sacto area). They used to make a really good cheese and almond ones...but I don't think they do anymore. Maybe it's time to replicate them. I've bookmarked this page. Thanks for the recipe. Joni
I saw this recipe on Nigella too but never got around to trying it-thanks for the reminder! This might be great for a weekend brunch we have coming up soon.
Best wishes,
Natasha.
I love these, but I try not to make them often because I will eat them all! I love your blog header. I took a little mini-vacation this week with Hubby, but Crock Pot Wednesday will be back up this coming week. I hope you will join me.
My family will LOVE these croissants this weekend. Hope you have a great day!
I love watching Nigella and I saw this episode. Your look every bit as wonderful as hers :)
Blessings!

I adore Nigella for the same reason you mentioned. She's so real and doesn't press crazy expectations on the viewer or reader of her cookbooks.
And I am looooooving the look of these croissants! They look completely amazing and decadent and best of all, EASY!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, my husband would kill for these! :-)
What a marvelous idea for a holiday brunch. I love it when simple and delicious become best of friends. Thanks for sharing this idea with us. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
