Dolly Bars

In our house, Sundays are when we do dessert. In an effort to find something different I was checking out Foodgawker when I came across this recipe. It had all the necessary yummy stuff included, chocolate, butterscotch, graham crackers, coconut, to make it a winner. The picture was mouth watering. I ran out that day and bought all the ingredients to make this recipe and honestly I had most on hand. I couldn't believe how simple this was to make and the end result was all that the pictures promised it would be, divine!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, cut into large pieces
1 1/2 cups graham crackers crumbs (about 8 graham crackers, pulsed in a food processor)
1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup shredded coconut
1 cup pecans, coarsely chopped
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt butter in microwave in heatproof bowl until just melted when stirred. Add graham cracker crumbs. Mix and then press evenly into the bottom of 8×8 baking pan.
Layer coconut, pecans, butterscotch and chocolate chips on top of graham cracker base. Pour sweetened condensed milk over whole mixture.
Bake in oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is light brown

The recipe suggests using a food processor but rather than mess with all of that I just smashed them up in a large baggie. My Mom always did it that way because she said sometimes the processor made the crackers to fine.

Melt your butter and add to crumbs in a small bowl. Mix through then press into a 8x8 baking dish with the back of a large spoon.

Sprinkle on the coconut to cover the graham crust.

Next add your rough chopped pecans.

Add your butterscotch chips.

Add your chocolate chips. I had some milk and some left over dark, (could there be such a thing?), so I put them all on top.

Open can of condensed milk (I open it all the way with a can opener, if not you lose too much) and pour over top.

Bake in your preheated 350* oven for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.

Once you try this recipe you'll realize that words cannot express how yummy these are! Hoping your family enjoys these as much as mine did.

I haven't seen Dolly bars in forever. They were served at every church social in the 70s. Awesome.
