Sorry that title leads you to think I was in Phoenix Arizona.
I'm just day dreaming. When I was 18 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona and started working in an office. The ladies in the office always went out to lunch together. The very first day, I went to Shogun on Tatum Boulevard it is a little tiny place next to the Lucky's grocery store. (which I don't think it is a Lucky's grocery store anymore) I had never been to a Japanese restaurant in my life and I don't think I had ever heard of sushi before. I was also a very picky eater and wasn't really big on trying new things.
I have grown up since then....thank goodness because I would have missed out on so many good things if I hadn't changed my ways.
The girls suggested that I try the teriyaki chicken bowl (I ate chicken back then). They said that is what Shogun was known for. To this day I still dream about their teriyaki bowls.....even though I don't eat chicken anymore!
I have made a vegetarian version of course!
I believe I have shared this product with you before it is my favorite fake chicken.
I cooked some rice and sautéed my favorite fake chicken in oil and when it was done I covered the veggie chicken with a little teriyaki and it gets all bubbly and caramelized. I turn it over a few times in the sauce. This step is a must, don't pass this part up. Cut it up into bite size pieces and put back in the pan then add a little more teriyaki, let it caramelize on all of the sides then put it over the rice.
This is my version of Shogun's teriyaki chicken bowl.![]()

This is Hailee's favorite food.....well, for the moment until she eats too much and then won't eat it again ever! If you have been to Shogun what is your favorite dish from there? Since I don't eat chicken anymore my favorite dish from there is Shogun Shrimp now! Phoenix has so many good restaurants which is your favorite? Maybe you haven't been to Shogun but Z'Tejas Grill, Sam's Cafe or Macaroni Grill is your favorite.
Have a wonderful day!
